After writing professionally for several years, I was invited to attend a local writer’s group. During the early course of that invitation, I met a woman named Dianne E. Butts. She was actively pursuing a writing career, publishing articles for Christian Magazines. She also headed up the Writer’s Group.
Her encouragement convinced me that I should do more than just business articles, and I started writing some fiction and children’s books. In the meanwhile September 11, 2001 happened and Dianne wrote a book called “Dear America” and had it published. The book she wrote spoke of grieving and how as a Nation we would grieve the losses of our friends and family members lost in 9-1-1, not to mention the loss of innocence we experienced as a nation.
When Dianne mentioned starting a Blog where she would be talking about controversial interests and activities within our government and our home communities, I supported her views. I still do.
Just today she spoke on her blog about a movie called “September Dawn.” She’s stirring up a fever of controversy and I believe that’s a good thing. It’s been said that Kathi Macias, one of many writers on the Movie September Dawn has mentioned that the Church of Latter Day Saints has slowed up the Release of “September Dawn” because of the topic, a raid on a wagon train in the late 1800’s by the renegade Mormons. Is it a valuable movie? Yes, it’s part of our nation’s history. Is it a story that needs to be told? Yes, it is part of our nation’s history. Is it embarrassing to a group of people? Probably. That too, is okay, because life happens and sometimes embarrassment is the thunder we hear when we made a mistake, did something that hurt others, or wounded our own selfish pride.
Dianne E. Butts is the Coolest Woman on the Planet this week, and I’d like to share her blog and her web site. Please visit her sites, leave comments, and let her know you think she’s cool too.
Edited to correct the Church affiliation. I had originally stated Seventh Day Adventist, when the controversy is over the LDS. Sorry.
